I have ICH! Couldn't be happier! Buying more fish tomorrow! Thoughts?

If you have a relatively small QT, I'd say skip the hypo and skip the treatments (unless it gets bad). Instead concentrate on keeping your salinity at 35ppm and your water as pristine as possible. Use small rubber hosing to siphon out all food and waste every day and do a 10% daily change with...

Anyone in the city want to frag an acan with me?

Nice! How many heads did did you start with? That looks like multiple years worth of growth for a acan! Cheers, Josh +1 on the dremel, make sure you get the stiffer, thicker of the diamond carbide blades, the really thin wafer ones will break on you too easy.

    Thoughts

I can honestly say that I've never had a testable level of ammonia, nitrite/nitrate while using 100ml of Purigen in my 24gal Nanocube (no skimmer). I can always tell when it gets to the end of its charge (3-4months), algae builds on the glass and hair algae starts to spring up. Recharge it and...

http://www.seachem.com/Products/product_pages/Purigen.html "Purigen™ is a premium synthetic adsorbent that is unlike any other filtration product. It is not a mixture of ion exchangers or adsorbents, but a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble impurities from...

Chemipure also seems to use a finer carbon then the typical stuff you buy, always rinse the heck out of it before it goes in your tank. The little red resin beads seem to last the lifetime of the carbon, 3-4months in my 24 though, so no problems there. Yeah, I don't know why more people...

    Thoughts

I use Chemi-Pure (regular) in place of carbon along with a bag of Purigen in my 24 and it seems to do the best job out of all the different media I have tried. I'm a little skeptical about "Elite" removing silicate, I'll ask my girlfriend (biogeochemist) to see what she thinks. Cheers, Josh

    When to replace DI?

Elite, So you are just using tap water on your tank? I've done a few water changes with just tap water with no ill effects, I just use PRIME and an air stone for 24hrs before it goes into the tank. I was thinking about going 100% over to tap to see what happens. As long as you do consistent...

where to buy glass in or around san jose?

I think TAP plastic has one of these babies http://news.thomasnet.com/fullstory/468823 essentially a long heated roller that allows you to push and bend the acrylic evenly and continuously. If you have the specs the might be able to do it for you, but they might charge. Not sure how you can...

where to buy glass in or around san jose?

I've thought about how to do this with my NanoCube 24, I was thinking if I got quality acrylic and had it heat flexed to a arc you could then cut out holes on either side to slide the Sunpod into and out of of. Not sure if this can even be done with arcylic and if it would make it brittle or...

Dinoflagellates are killing me :( may sell what's left

did you try bringing your Ph up? Also, try adding an couple air stones (or an extra skimmer running full bubbles) and extreme water movement (add a couple temp maxijets), even if it is temporary and irritates the corals, if you can get a mild sand storm going in your tank the dino will hate it...

where to buy glass in or around san jose?

so the glass is the structural support holding up the Aquapod? If it breaks would the pod falls into the tank? I don't think I'd trust small panels of glass for structural support, too easy to be compromised with any stress, shock, impact, especially if its going to have a hole cut out of the...

ReefNutrition Questions (Gresham, I'm looking at you!)

Hi All, Any idea how long phyto-feast keeps at room temperature, in a dark cabinet? Also, can you freeze it okay? I've found that there is no way I can go through an entire 6oz bottle in two-three months with my feeding regime (combo of mysis, F1, Spretrum flakes, and a couple drips of...

Arnold's tank crash - stupid power outage!

Arnold, This might sound strange, but do you want to participate in a little experiment? If you have a QT/frag tank set up would you be willing to move a few of your bleached frags to it and start dosing ascorbic acid (vitamin C)? There are studies that suggest that as a antioxidant ascorbic...

This new tank is making me bite my nails.

Edit, pretty redundant to what Elite and Semi said, but they posted so quick! 1) How big is your system (sump?) 2) How willing are you to do consistent water changes? I'm a big believer in minimal supplements if you can do consistent water changes (10-20% weekly). If you have a large...

    Resources/POC for Chinese Coral Reefs

Hi All, I'm looking for general information, points of contact for coral reefs along the coast of China. Any info would be much appreciated (reserves, conservation, researchers, projects, news, etc). Looking to put together a proposal to map shallow water reefs along the coast of China...

Arnold's tank crash - stupid power outage!

ugh, sorry to hear, this is literally my worst nightmare and I just came home to a note on the door, PG&E is giving 24-48hr notice on break in service. They are doing seismic retrofits all the gas lines on my street for the next 10days...no mention WHEN the power/gas will be out or for how...

whats the best way to stop hairy algae growth?

also, I noticed dramatic improvements in water quality when I had a sand sifter goby, I really think all the sand movement really helps suspend debris for filtration and also improving the sands N cycle capacity, after I lost my sand sifter I've been trying to mimic this by stirring up the sand...

whats the best way to stop hairy algae growth?

if you really want to cut down on excess nutrients in the system, drop your frozen mysis cube in a cup 1/4 full of tank water. Let it sit for 5mins, stir it gently, and wait a min to let it settle. All the mysis will sink to the bottom, then slowly dump off the excess water. This essentially...
