Cycling base rock with treated tap water

I'm actually doing that now to seed one piece of rock at a time, but there is not much room for the bigger base rock. How do people like Prime as a dechlorinater? Looks like its suppose to remove N and ammonia too....I've always been skeptical of these things, is it really an all in one...

    Changing your T5's?

okay, I'm going to replace the bulbs on my 4x39watt system This is going to be the primary and only lighting source for a LPS tank. the tank is 36x15x16, so it max depth is 16". The fixture sits sits 1/2" off the top of the tank. so here is what I'm thinking... F-->B ATI Blue + UV...

Cycling base rock with treated tap water

I'll be running 75gal total in reef tanks, so about 10gal a week, plus the weeks when I need to do bigger water changes. So a very light load.

    Do you like Windows Vista??

you'd be surprised how much memory has dropped for laptops. 2.5" hard drives are also dropping. You can 320GB for $200 now, unheard of 2 years ago. most lappies only upgrade to 2GB total and most have two available slots. you can get 2x1GB for $34...

Cycling base rock with treated tap water

sweet, looks like I'm getting a RO/DI unit :) Might go simple with something like this: http://www.airwaterice.com/product/1COMPACT/Compact_75_GPD_Reefkeeper_RODI.html and support our sponsor. Anyone feedback on this unit? Or the Mighty Mite RO/DI? Cheers, Josh

to install that I would need a blow torch, solder, and pipe cutter right? yeah, I don't think I'll be cycling my base rock in the toilet :)

    Do you like Windows Vista??

They ran a huge national survey and found that only 40% of IT specialists would upgrade from XP to Vista. Just go back to XP and wait for Windows 7 to come out in 2010. Who knows, with the growth of Apple right now they might have a bigger piece of the market and we'll have a more competitive...

any problems with hooking up to the hose faucet outside? Just as long as I remember to bring it in on the few days it freezes in the east bay.

Cycling base rock with treated tap water

I only spend around ~$14 a month. The only real space I have to hook it up would be in the utility room with the washer and drier. The only threaded faucet in there would be cold water in on the back of the washer. I live with 5 people, so hooking it up in the kitchen would be trouble and the...

Cycling base rock with treated tap water

Yeah, I really want to get one and have battled the numbers over whether it would be cost effective for me or not. I only need about 10gal a week, so I worry about the membrane drying out and having to replace the canisters before EOL. I also need to convince my roommates to be cool with...

Power Watch East Bay (FYI: North Berkeley has been off and on)

errr, my email notification is killing me! I only get emails 50% of the time, not sure if it is on my end or BARs. Anyways, in terms of stocking I would say about 1.2lbs LR per gal, 1lb LS per gal, and 1fish (small fish) per 12gal, and maybe 5% total volume in coral.

Cycling base rock with treated tap water

So I need to cure about ~40lbs of base rock, I don't own a RO/DI unit because of space, roommates, water waste, and cost/volume needed ratio. I normally drive my truck up to Glacier dispenser and fill my 5gal buckets @ $0.35gal. This is usually no big deal since I make about a run a month, but...

Fishing in Santa Cruz or HMB

I'm so in, we could go up to Linmantour Beach, nail some surf perch, rockfish, and BBQ and if nothing bites we bust out the fight kites for king of the beach!

haha, was just correcting that when you posted. I wonder if it is meant to protect access for all social/economic classes.

Fishing in Santa Cruz or HMB

I think you have to buy a license not matter what, CA is one of the few states that require a license for fishing in the ocean. In terms of fishing private water I'm not sure, some states you do need a general license, some a private water license, some none at all. Let us know what you find...

Power Watch East Bay (FYI: North Berkeley has been off and on)

there is an elderly man across the street from me, I think he on some sort of life support, a really annoying alarm starts beeping and minutes after a home care team is parked in front of his house. How long can a moderately stocked tank go without water movement? I have a battery backup, but...

Power Watch East Bay (FYI: North Berkeley has been off and on)

Power has been bouncing on and off at my house all morning. I hooked up my battery bubbler just in case. Is there anyway to get notified by PG&E about power outages? Any websites that track it? I'm pretty sure a transformer blew, same thing happen in my neighborhood on the last hot day...

Techniques for break/cutting up base rock

just looked up cutting bricks with a hack saw, a carbide blade is what they recommend, should be even easier on coral base rock. man, I feel bad, some of these pieces are show room big tank quality, two of them must be 16"x16", hand me downs from Phong->Boun->me, they just won't fit in...

Techniques for break/cutting up base rock

They are pretty big, foot size or bigger (~3-8" to cut). I need to get a new blade for the hack saw, wonder if they make one for ceramic/masonry applications. How does the cut look afterwords? Does it look fake or will it be okay for the display shelving? Thanks, Josh
