    All in one protein skimmer.

Came up in a link from saltwater aquarium New all in one protein skimmer from aquaforest - Looks interesting-. Would certainly cut down on my Frankenstein’ed approach to skimmers -esp the recirculating co2 scrubber...

Electronic alk monitoring alternative to trident

So the trident went down with a test b failure., Going to try and fix it myself but this is the third unit in 3 years that I have had. Second unit under warranty, third unit by refurbished unit-which is not inexpensive-it’s $150 and the warranty is only 6 months. If I can’t get it resolved...

Elephant slugs (I think) and are PIF

Hi all- I am just clarifying that the species in the pics are these below, https://portphillipmarinelife.net.au/species/10945. I had a few but now suddenly they have exploded in population. They do a good job grazing and don’t bother corals. I just have too many I think??? I counted 14...

Kalk out, CO2 scrubber back in (and question on humidity)

Kalk is out due mostly to the fact that the amount of kalk needed to have an impact was exceeding the evaporation rate and was really problematic keeping it from getting into the hyposalinity state. So for the simple reason of never letting go of things-the CO2 scrubber is back in action. I...

And the blenny makes a break for it -

Earlier this week I thought the Molly miller blenny bit the dust. Very surprised last night when I went to clean out the protein skimmer it was swimming around the sump. Managed to get it back in the DT and hopefully it learned its lesson..

    Bunch of coral dying

At first I though it was just that the nitrates bottomed out a month ago (and I got it back up fast) that couple corals suddenly died -but now about a month later I still have coral dying off - Mostly sps-two acros RTN’ed this week. So i have lost 4 acros, bird nest colony, another sps...

Take your eye off the ball (nitrate) for a minute and boom

I have been a little busier at work and not at home as much. Normally I test no3/po4 2x a week. The one week I don’t nitrates bottomed out due a couple of factors. Prob at zero anywhere from 3-5 days but the ramifications-one acro RTN’ed overnight. My bird’s nest colony bleached in a...

Red Sea replacing probes for free (ato)?

So the other day I got an error for the ato in that the temp component had failed. There was a link in the app that asked for shipping info and the HW serial number. So far they have not asked for payment. Mine is at least 1 yr out of warranty.

    Liquid mysis favorites

Hi all- I was using reef nutrition’s mysis until they removed it off the market. I had switched to aquaforest -which is fine as in fish like it but I can’t use the Red Sea doser with this as it is too thick and jams the dosing head. @Coral reefer -i believe you are using this for your doser...

    “Resetting” live rock

Ok -so I have a chunk of live rock that is pretty heavy on the yumas & shrooms. I am thinking of breaking it off (see pic-left side) - Then turning it vertical and gluing it to some base and call it a day. Other option is to nuke it and reset it but I’d rather keep the “bacteria” of the...

    Another rant on testing

So I got back my recent ICP test- Apart from informing that my dosing of trace elements way too high (iodine nearly 3x and strontium 2x from indicated desired level per ATI) - The Hanna PO4 and NO3 testers no where even close and the trident alk off by .7 DKH- ICP came back with 9.x while...

    Kalk containers

What are people using for kalk containers? Right now I am using a one gallon jug with a rubber stopper that has a line going through it. I prefer glass over acrylic or HDPE plastic due to its caustic PH. I was considering the avast kalk stirrer but it seems to run via ATO which I don’t like...

    Nitrate at .2

Well i was a bit surprised to find my nitrate at .2 after testing after a couple of months. Probably due to my faux algae scrubber aka all the algae in my sump. With the recent addition of my kalk doser -I have shut down the refugium light and the algae is disappearing really quickly...

Just how quiet is the new Neptune DOS

Anyone have experience with the new DOS from Neptune? Is it really quiet? As in running overnight quiet? TIA

PIF: trident printed form factor (edit)

Two items for supporting members only: 1) Trident alt form factor. Funny enough the original fits better in my sump. Note-there is one piece that needs to be 3D reprinted (the lime looking thing (@ashburn2k ) or another can print it out. You can use a tab of glue to also hold the curvette in...

How to pare down massive algae in sump

Ok- between two vacations my sump became a huge algae mess. It actually helped keep PH higher keeping the refugium light going 24/7 while I got the alk/ph issues mostly resolved. But now that I am home-need to deal with this ugly mess. I probably will scrape as much as possible but in...

Best CA testing kit (not trident)

Anyone has suggestion for a CA testing kit as I believe the refurbished trident I received is not properly testing CA. I think Alk is ok but will test against sailfert. TIA
