I have the Red Sea 170 so only has one cup. Keep a small bag of carbon in the bottom with floss on top. FYI the floss can work itself under the carbon and you have a source of nitrates but just keep it clear.

I use the Red Sea cup made for their reefer tanks and I love being able to toss out a bit of filter floss instead of rinsing socks. I keep a bag of carbon under the floss at the bottom of the cup.

I’ve always had luck with peppermint shrimp. I know some people say it’s hit or miss but in the past it’s the only thing that worked for me.

My birdsnest coral is way too big, so I’d like to cut it up and give it out to whoever wants it. I’m in the Sunset (southwest part of San Francisco) for pickup and I will update this post when there’s nothing left. I’ll be available for pickup starting Tuesday 5/26 and would prefer to keep it...

The male should be treated as well. Treating the fish wont harm them at all.

I followed this method from BRS using dead Marco rocks and it seems good so far. I dosed with pure ammonia and used Dr Tims bacteria. I've since finished the cycle and added my fish followed by the clean up crew. I would add the cheato later in the cycle if you use it.

The first one I had acted weird and would beep a lot. The second unit I had was fine. I’ve since replaced it with the micro version just because the regular one wouldn’t fit in my cabinet.

I know there will always be some kind of algae in there but I’d like to avoid a strain that outgrows everything else. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for this ReefCleaners order. Hopefully I’ll start moving fish over at the end of the month to the new tank.

Well I’m setting up my new Red Sea 170 with dry rock and trying to prevent pest algae’s especially from getting into it. My plan is to start an algae reactor before fish and light are introduced to the display so any algae grows in the reactor not the tank.

Since AlgaeBarn hasn’t had any chaeto in stock for a while I put in an order for 2 tennis ball sized bunches of chaeto. I will give a close inspection. Were you able to easily see the hair algae on the stuff you got?

Has anyone ordered from reefcleaners.org? I can’t find chaeto too many places.

Ugh they were going to be my source chaeto as well.

I think they’re are pretty but mine always seemed to hide A LOT. I think I will pass on them in the future because of this.

I did read read your journal which is on of the reasons why I got this tank. . I dunno if I have the energy to keep a tank journal, but I’ll take some photos just in case.

That’s good to hear, because I went ahead picked up a 170 today at Neptune’s. I can’t wait to get back into SPS.
