Why/When: In preparation for our next Members’ Swap, we are having a fragging/dipping workshop Sunday 01/19, 1pm-3pm

@Srt4eric will be in charge with @Arvin R standing by to help you with any purchases (it's a great time to get reasonable frags with your BAR discount!)

Where: @Arvin R will be hosting this in Castro Valley. The address will be sent out to those that rsvp closer to the date.

Who: Supporting members are welcome, can bring a guest (space permitting). No children allowed since we will have some potentially dangerous equipment active.

What: We will be discussing and getting hands-on practice with techniques for fragging coral, mounting coral to plugs/rock, using frag containers/swap labels, dipping new frags for pests, and whatever else you guys would like. We will have band saws, bone cutters, scalpels, glue, plugs, rubble, etc to use. If you want to bring your own tools or donate some consumables, great (and let us know). Everyone should bring your own safety glasses, and gloves if you’ll use them.

We would like attendees to bring some coral colonies that you would like to have fragged up. It will help to have a variety of types of coral to practice on. What you do with the resulting frags of colonies you bring is completely up to you; options include: taking them home again, donating some or all to the store/swap, giving or selling to attendees there, etc. Whatever makes sense for you, just have something in mind by the day of. The main thing we need is coral to practice on. Even dead coral skeletons would be helpful for practice (highly recommend anyone with dead scolymia or brain corals to slice them up to see if there were any boring clams).

Volunteers: we are also looking for additional volunteers who would like to help teach fragging techniques, please reply in thread below and I'll add you to the list.

Assuming I can bum a ride or carpool that day .

1.) I could possibly bring a leather coral, it would more or less only be for demonstration purposes as I would only want to frag a little of it. I could demonstrate two leather coral fragging tecniques (toothpicks and rubberbands attachment methods).

2.) I could bring some rhodactis mushrooms and demonstrate the cutting propagation method for them. Though I haven't cut any in a while.

3.) I would also be willing to bring my dremel and (safely) demonstrate zoanthid fragging methods and discuss precautions. I don't personally ever frag Palythoas. If any of this would be of intrest to anyone.

I've never used or had enough to frag requiring me to borrow the bandsaw so all of my fragging is done with razor blades, scissors, and mostly a dremel. Things readily available to anyone for minimum cost.

I would add I'm no expert fragger. Yet I've done the ones mentioned above many times.

So if anyone had a larger toadstool, or zoanthids colony I would be willing to show people how beyond just a demonstration.

I can’t make this because Sundays are always a no go for me but maybe you can teach me how to frag zoas sometime lol. Still scared to do it

You guys can have this montipora if you want to use it. Although I don’t know what you’d do with it after. I don’t want it lol. I’ve been trying to get rid of it. I got it as a freebie a long time ago and it’s just been there but it’s starting to take up too much space and I don’t think it’s happy in the placement I have it currently. It kinda grew into a cave tho. My peppermint shrimp sleep in it
