Our mission

Acclimating SPS

So,
I have been lucky enough to been given a few frags of SPS over the past few months and have been successful at killing all but 2 of them.....

Could you guys ( masters of SPS) give us newbies to SPS a step by step guide to acclimating....
Thanks

Please include dips/placement/tricks of the trade...
cheers

Hopefully with your help, me and other reefers will be able to start keeping some SPS!!!

:)

There is no need to acclimate typically. Just dip with some kind of iodine dip (tmpcc, providone, etc.) and place in tank. Some people also run interceptor in their quarantine for 12 hours when introducing new frags. If your sps are dying there is something else happening with the tank. What are your parameters? kH, CA, Mg?

Tip,

when you dip in iodine, before you put into main tank do a dip in tank water outside in a bucket of clean container

I have recieved dozens of frags that sat in deli containers for many many hours and are room temperature water.
I then toss them into providon solution.
I then blast them with a baster and toss them into my tank.

ZERO acclimation.

I have NEVER lost a coral to this process. In fact, I can only recall losing a tenius long ago due to lack of flow (I think) and some LPS that fought eachother.

This tells me that it isn't the acclimation that kills the coral, but rather the health of the coral to start (healthy in the owners tank..I've had plenty of fresh frags and no issues) and good tank parameters in the new home.
