Actual live rock at SWA

Haven't seen "indo" rock being sold for a long time. Looks to be cured though probably with no light for awhile. https://www.saltwateraquarium.com/r...-wild-live-rock-by-the-lb-indonesian-chicago/

Eye watering price at $20/lb, I think I paid around $6/lb for my Tonga branch fresh off the plane in 2008. Aquarium specialty used to sell Aussie rock, but I'm not sure if they're doing so anymore.

Of course having established systems in a reef club like ours is great to get seeded rock/media from. But still a good option for anyone that lives far away.

Interesting, but indeed expensive. Especially if you add shipping.

Cannot help myself but need to add that this is also a good alternative for someone who wants a fresh start and not inherit other tanks good and bad stuff.

The price dropped by $3 for the presidents day sale..still on the high side if your buying 7 lbs or less. There's a $40 fee on top of the shipping if the order is < $179.

Worth it if you're getting other livestock or enough rock to avoid the $40 box fee.

SWA emailed me back and clarified the shipping. Fedex overnight is INCLUDED in the price, meaning you can choose the free shipping option and checkout and incur no additional charge. The $40 box fee also does not apply in this case. Total for the 5lb minimum order during the sale comes out to $93 and some change.

Are you ordering some?

If it’s shipped overnight in water do you need to cure it?
The indo from SWA ships wet wrapped. Even if fresh out their holding tank, I'd imagine there would be some die off. Same with the Aussie LR from aquarium Specialty.

TBS , KP (select ones), and aquabiomics ship their product in water. I'd probably feel more comfortable adding these to my tank if there was livestock already in it.

So don't put it directly in your sump? That would be my instinct.

I can confirm you get free shipping and it is $92.06 for 5 lbs today. I am tempted to get some for my systems to get some biological diversity. I should still have some good stuff from my old system. Maybe time for an aquabiomics test.

Curing rock means different things to different people. I would think with wet/damp rock you’d put it in a bucket with saltwater, flow, and a heater for maybe 1-2 weeks to let dead stuff decompose (and let living stuff stay living). Not the more intensive curing process that includes actively killing everything and then letting it reseed for many weeks or months that some people mean by curing.

Though if it’s going into a mature larger tank probably just putting it in is fine since there’s already an active microbiome to process the decomposition.
