got ethical husbandry?

Another one bites the dust

Looks like Peninsula Tropicals is closing its doors after god knows how many years :p

For those of you that weren't around, or never got a chance to visit, there is history in that store..

The current ownership left a little to be desired, for example there was a sign when you walk in that said "advice for regular customers only", not a real good attitude.

Back in the day though it was completely different, PT was a shop that QT'd all marine fish. Kyle the manager was extremely knowledgeable, and maintained a 180 reef that in its day was one of the nicer reefs around. The service, selection of fish and corals, and overall management/ethics has yet to be met in the Bay Area. It was a sad day when the place was sold, and now the final nail has been driven into the coffin.

If you want cheap stuff, bring cash and Steve will unload stuff for cheap. There are plenty of 125g tanks with overflows and eurobracing for $60, you can't beat that!

Not many IIRC. He stopped in time to time but rarely could even hit the $150 min  He usually wanted a fish or two only.

Yeah, they weren't exactly pumping out the fish (how can you when you QT for two weeks, every single fish).

When I was at the Academy we went to two stores for fish, Nippon (rip), and Peninsula (now rip).

While I don't know the store, that sign you mentioned does ring a bell :)

Its been talked about...

At one point I tried to help the guy out, I work a lot in the area and it would have been nice to be able to shop there regularly.

BTW, anyone know if Dan at Down Under is still around? Last time I went to his store it looked as if he was breaking stuff down too.

Dan at Down Under has also closed his shop.

That's what I had suspected, someone told me he moved back over to Woodside Rd, but somehow that didn't seem quite right to me. He always tried to help me out to the best of his ability despite his store being so small and mom and pop.

I guess we're down to Ultimate on the mid-upper peninsula, I like Joe quite a bit actually, but a little competition never hurts the consumer...

LOL... :)

... and I'm only laughing because you could be talking about me... for real.

::)

Yep, I prefer to go to stores only after they are closed for the day (or forever). I'll go see if I can pick up some deal at Penninsula Tropicals tomorrow, since my wife is meeting some friends with the girls!

I popped by on Saturday...meh. OK, so they had some RR tanks, but the sides were blue (not transparent). A good deal for sure, even if just for the acrylic! But I resisted. I was basically ignored while I was there anyway. They had a few fish, nothing to write home about, I just left after being ignored for 10 minutes.
