Another HP annoyance from way back...

Memory is vague on this one, but I had set up an HP All-in-One on the network and wanted to have it route incoming faxes to a Linux fileserver instead of printing them all out.

There had been software to do this, and it was included in the 1.0 version of the install package. Google turned up references to the utility as well. HP tech forums told everybody all different variations of it not being possible.

In a way, I guess it wasn't possible, because the utility was deleted from HP's support forum downloads.

I figure that the original software team must have put together the tools, and that Carly saw what it did and said, "What the heck are you guys thinking???!!"

I actually have one of these in the garage ;D ..

They are all shit though. I have a pile of each company and I have yet to find one that works flawlessly. heck, even the commercial ones we use at work have problems :(

pick up a Linksys WRT54G on Craig's list, try to get a version 2, 3, or 4, not 1 or 5. Then install third party firmware, currently I run tomato (http://www.polarcloud.com/tomato), but lots of people like DD-WRT (http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv3/). These firmwares are more stable and control able, you can easily OC your broadcast by 30-40%, just need to make sure you keep it cool :)

Even if you stick with the Linksys stock firmware, the WRT54G is a classic wireless router, can't go wrong for the money.

Cheers,

Josh

PS: Invest in a good modem, often times when the modem goes down it will freeze up the router, also most noise/interference will be generated in the modem, it can also act as a bottle neck if you have better than 10MB/s service.

Where were you 5 years ago Josh :( You could have saved me countless trips to Fry's :D
