Aquarium Sand

So my tank is finally full of water and rocks. I would like to pick some sand that I can buy locally to San Mateo. Is there any recommendation on a place to purchase and a type of sand to purchase?

I would like to get some sand sifting blemmies? Not exactly sure of the name of the sand sifting fish yet but I know I want one.

In San Mateo there are a few shops. Aqua Exotic in Belmont (Club Sponsor) or Ultimate Aquarium in San Mateo.

As to type, that is a personal opinion you will have to make.

Just recently bought 20 lb bags of Ocean Direct for half price ($15) at Petsmart on El Camino at Hillsdale

What are people maintenance schedules for sand beds? Bare bottoms? Trying to decide which way to go, any advice is greatly appreciated.
