Are AIO not as popular in Fresh Water?

Thanks, guys! I've been looking into betta lately, and I am very surprised at what is available now. I was contemplating making one of my saltwater AIO into a betta tank but wasn't sure if it would be suitable.
 
Personally I can think of a few reasons (from a FW planted hobbyists perspective)
-cannister filters with glass lily pipes are popular
-Light screens are also “in” right now (not possible with an AIO false wall).
-Cannister filters leave more room for planting, you can even find ones with integrated heaters and co2 diffusers.

Just my 2 cents, nothing wrong with AIO from a functional perspective, just not super popular right now.

I was thinking about keeping it low-tech, which I believe means a planted system that doesn't use C02 and hard to keep plants.
For example, what I think I want.
  • Fluval Stratum - has nutrients for plants.
  • Sieryu or Dragon Stone - for hardscape
  • Easy Plants - that doesn't require c02
  • Betta fish - maybe add a community of tetras.
I'm just in the research stage, but staring at an empty AIO tank every day gives me ideas.
 
last couple years I ran a 10g aio betta harem 3 females one male which they did lay egg. Black sand, micro led light alota guppy grass & anubias plants with a bunch of bamboo growing up outa the filtration area. Think I changed the water a few times water stayed crystal clear had a few snails never needed to clean the glass basically ran itself . Been running last two months with no fish trying to decide if I wanna flip it salty. Love the plants miss them in our California salty tanks!!

did you have any issue with fin Rot due the the possibility of high flow from the AIO return.

This post pushing me to start the betta tank sooner. lol

No fin rot however the return is directed up high to keep like a counter clockwise ripple current plus with the big matt of guppy grass floating around diffuses the current. I do have to toss out handfuls every month stuff grows like weeds. I did use a valve to throttle down the maxi jet a bit. Back chamber has small heater for cooler winter months. Small piece of filter floss in overflow supported by super corse black plastic sponge pad. The black sand is pretty fine and stays clean never need to vac. My wife wanted a simple tank in her meditation room so works out nicely. Ideally she wants a sea horse tank with pipe fish.
