Bfirecat's Impromptu 14g Peninsula

Hey everyone,

The fiancee approved of a small tank to hold the addiction over....

I jump started the tank with some rock rubble from the old 525XL and put in the corals I had leftover.

Equipment:
Innovative Marine 14g Peninsula Pro Kit
Mightyjet Return Pump
AI Hydra Prime 16HD
2 Maxspect Nano Blocks for bio filtration
25w Neotherm Heater
SmartATO
Apex (eventually)
GHL 2.1 doser (if water changes doesn't keep up with use)

Fish:
2 O Clowns
1 Chromis
1 Royal Gramma

Inverts:
15 Snails
1 Emerald crab
1 Peppermint Shrimp
1 Blue legged hermit

Hopefully the ugly phase isn't too bad with the rock rubble that was moved over.

Nice! glad to see this hobby still has its claws in you!

Thanks for all the kind words!

Planned updates for tank:
Changing the AI Prime 16 HD to a Radion XR30 + Reefbrites. I feel like the AI blues don't color up the corals as up as the Radions did.
Icecap K1 nano skimmer + Co2 reactor since PH is on the lower side.
Coralvue cabinet to manage the cables and power bricks

Planned livestock additions:
1 emerald crab
5 blue legged hermits
5 dwarf ceriths

The tank is consuming ~3.5ppm of alk a day so far so I am dosing ~4ml of All for Reef manually until the cabinet comes in.

First tank shots. About a week old and hoping the ugly phase is lessened by having some old rock rubble moved over.

Normal new tank woes have begun.
A bacterial bloom and some diatoms.

I added some phosguard and more carbon to the tank, as well as Microbacter7 and Microbacter Clean.

Hopefully the ugly phase isn’t too bad with the use of some rock rubble.

Added more CUC:
3 cerith snails
3 nassarius snails
5 red legged hermits

Figured I'd get some pictures in before the ugly phase goes bonkers.

With and without an orange filter.

The center of this tank is going to look awesome once those euphylia grow together. Not a bad way to hold onto the hobby before your move.

How do you like the frozen food thing, do you have to clean it out or does all the food fall out?

I like the frozen food thing for the most part.
Sometimes the food doesn't go all the way out, so I just pull the magnet down and it floats away.
I'd recommend it.

Since the tank is new, I've been keeping a close eye on it.
Alk usage is about 7ppm a day so far, about .4 dkh.
I'm dosing 3ml of All for Reef to keep up with consumption.

Nitrate is at 10, Phosphate is at .27 today.
Did a 10% water change, and also started dosing Tropic Marin Bacto NP.
My goal is 5 nitrate and .05-.08 phosphate.
Waiting for the phosguard to lower phosphate.

Hoping the skimmer comes in soon so I can stop carbon dosing.

Alk consumption is really stable so far.

Dosing 3ml All for Reef keeps the tank at ~9dkh.

Doing a 10% water change daily.
Nitrates are at 9 today, and phosphate at .23.

Trying to get the parameters more in line with what I'm used to.
Also trying to lower the impact of the ugly phase.
Aiming for 5 nitrate and .05-.08 phosphate.

Whenever the skimmer comes in, I'm hoping to reduce the water changes to weekly.
