I thought Euphyllia paraancora was the outdated name of the branching hammer coral.

Has it been assigned to a new coral? I thought most hobby torches are Euphyllia glabrescens

I think you are correct. Or rather this name: Euphyllia paraglabrescens

Hammers and Frogspawn are no longer Euphyllia. They have been reclassified as Fimbriaphyllia.

Believe it or not it’s been over 7 years since they reclassified it.

And all the merulinid corals “favia” saga started a decade ago

Those are indo golds. (Arvin might be using another name) Banana Torches are much more yellow, although i can see how these look yellow in the photo. Banana torches wont have the darker purple/black on them.

The names confuse me so much lol. I picked this up from someone reputable last CFM and was sold as “AQ Indo Gold Torch” but doesn’t look anything like the one in that pic. Do you know what mine could be?

These are selling under the street name of Rapunzel torches. But yes just another color variant of indo torches. These are a bit more rare of a color variant.

The changing scientific names is one of the reasons common names are actually functionally better, not just easier.
