For starters, I do not have any chalices and know nothing about them. I would like to know why you like chalices so much. Easy to care? Minimal requirements? Interesting colors? Interesting growth?

What are their requirements? Flow? Lighting? Water quality?

I finished plumbing my 6g nano to my 100g and I'm not sure where to go with it. It is powered with 4 compact florescent lights with flow coming from a tee'd off ehiem return pump. I am hoping to get an orange hammer or torch in it and might consider other animals.

Pls tell me about chalices.

TIA

In my opinion, they seem to be pretty moderate in terms of level of care. I'm not crazy about them one bit, but I do like some, especially at good prices. I think they're just one of the next fads, like acans were, and then zoas are/were and the aussie craze.

Not that you asked, but I say put a nice euphyllia sp. with maybe some rics or mushrooms on the bottom and then toss some sexy shrimp in your 6g. Maximum pop and wow effect, with just the right amount of motion.

They are fairly easy, lighting varies from piece to piece, the water quality does'nt need to be pristine, much like most other LPS. Mine seem to like a medium flow. Some grow fairly fast, but it seems most grow pretty slow.

Why did I get the ones I have? A few for their color, one was given to me that was almost dead and one I got dirt cheap out of a junk frag tank to see if it will color up. I don't have any of the high priced LE's, I just refuse to help ruin this hobby be paying outrageous amounts of money for a booger frag. The latest one I've seen to break the bank is being hyped up months in advance to get the interest up. The price for a tiny frag,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,$1500.

as a matter of fact, i am working with ocean treasures on getting an aussie orange euphyllia sp. i really hope it is orange orange and not brown/tan orange. i saw bluenassarius' tank and he has a bunch of lps and sexy shrimp. looks very cool and will definitely consider it.

i figure, if i put in an orange hammer, that i can also put in other lps, i.e. chalice. good to know the care level too.

lol, "booger frag." i cant afford 200 per inch so no LE named stuff for me. what the heck costs 1500 per inch?

IME they can be the most difficult corals, when they get pissed for one reason or another they are very difficult to turn around and color back up, it really depends on the piece.

Chalice are super rare in the ocean. That's why they are super expensive becuase only the rich and famous can afford them. If you have one, that means you are rich! And, if you are thinking about getting one, that means you're halfway becoming rich! :D
