Our mission

Chemi-pure Elite

I have Hair Algae, Green Cano, and Brown Slime. I've been doing 20% water changes, and vacuming the sand, nothing gets rid of it. Cut the lights down to 6hrs, increased water flow etc. I'm kinda at my wits end. The guy at the LFS recommended Chemi-pure Elite to remove the Nitrates, Phosphates and Silicate. He said this would starve the algae and cano.

What are you guys thoughts on this? Put a 11.74oz units in each canister. Totaling two bags for a 90 gallon tank.

Read up on Chemi Pure, the resins in them don't work the effectively in saltwater. Do a Reef Central search in the Chem forum to see what I am talking about.

Yep, and the media adsorbs at different rates, so some become exhausted quickly some take a while to become saturated. You're better off with GFO.

Ok the Phosban reactors hang on the tank, so that may be a good solution for me. What size would be the best for tanks 90-180 gallons? Can I over use this reactor? Is too much absorption a bad thing?

Once I'm using is how ofter should I replace the media? Do I need to worry about the media becoming a solid brick in this type of reactor?

Sorry for all the stupid questions. This is all very new to me.

That looks like a sweet reactor, good reviews too. Think I'll order that one. I called around nobody carries that brand, but seems like a good design, if you need more you just get another reactor and they connect. Thanks for the link, gonna order one and try it out.

I have the black version of that reactor. WOrks great but it wasn't (IMO) designed for their granular GFO (plugs the foam) nor the ROX0.8 carbon (plugs and can go through the foam). Use pellets or larger granuals

Try turning your lights off for 3 days.
It worked for me to rid the tank of cyano.
Then I started using GFO and I have never seen it since.
I hope you are using RO/DI for mixing salt water and mainly for top off water.
