Citric Acid - Cheaper Options

If you add sodium benzoate (a food-safe preservative), your 5% citric acid lasts for many months instead of days

0.1% sodium benzoate
= 3.8 g/gallon
= 5 ml/gallon (1 teaspoon/gallon)
Dissolve in water first, then add to acid

I keep a 5 gallon bucket with 4 gallons of citric acid on hand to reduce friction to clean stuff

Thanks! Just to clarify, does this allow to use less of citiric?

I use 5% citric acid, which is a pretty commonly used amount. The difference is that it doesn’t go bad like citric acid usually does pretty quickly, so you can use the same batch of citric acid innumerable times if you are willing to store it. So over the course of a year you are using way less citric acid.

Did not know that. Thanks for sharing.

Ive been using muriatic for cleaning lately.

I'm not a fan of working with Muriatic acid for our purposes. I used to work with Hydrochloric acid in labs and that stuff is not to be messed with. I think the dangerous side of working with it far out weighs the benefits of it. Especially since there are much less caustic options out there that do mostly the same job for our use case. Plus I got small kids around the house and last thing I need is for them to accidentally get a full whiff of the stuff while I'm using it.

Amazon is actually cheaper if you add in shipping.

$166.37 / 800 oz = $0.208/oz

$136.99 / 702.6 oz = $0.195/oz

Are you guys disposing of bodies in 55g drums? What is everyone using so much acid for?
Ah, that is what these are being used for !!!! I bought a new 55g brute container last week after no one on facebook or here (separate thread) or anywhere offered them at a reasonable price + shipping - and it will still take a month or two to ship to me (from Amazon!). And it seems to only impact this size which now makes more sense now looking at the dimensions....
