Just in case you thought your tank was pretty clean, and you have this'd big overflows that most of us seem to have, and haven't cleaned them out...
GIVE IT A TRY!
I've found that siphoning out the overflow, especially along the very bottom, often pulls out a bunch of detritus, etc...
With my bare bottom tank that and the sump are the only real dead spots so I siphon them both often. It builds up. I reccomend it.
