Cleaning filter socks?

Ok....I'll prolly get crap for this....I put mine in the washing machine. I do a complete wipe down on the inside and top with clean wet cloths that get rinsed frequently. The sock goes in with low water level, cold water, regular wash, and second rinse. After it's done it looks brand spanking new. It then goes into a pot of cold water with some Seachem Prime for a good final rinse and then it's done.

I've never found another way to get it that clean. Washing by hand just doesn't do it.

Yeah that seems like a lot of work.
I just rinse it/rub it under the tap! Not perfect, but not that far off. Not felt, but a poly mesh. Works for me :)
 
I place them in the washer --hot water--with about 1/8 cup of bleach (no detergent), with an extra rinse cycle, line drying overnight. I have a bunch of filter socks, so I wait until I have about 20 to wash... I only have to go through this process every couple of months.
 
Ok, Im going to try the washing machine!
I also think Im going to order some extra socks, because when it comes down to things that go in the washing machine or laundry. I have a really bad habit of waiting until I have to start smeeling cloths b4 I were them. I dont really want to extend that pratice to the filter socks :Sp
 
Washing machine as well with bleach, extra rinse as stated. After, I toss them into a bucket of freshwater and Prime just in case there's any hint of residue.
 
I just bleach them with a about cup of bleach in a 5 gallon bucket with the lid on for a few days.
then I rinse them with a hose.
Line dry.
I worry about laundry soap residue in the machine.
Just my own, probably worthless, worry.
 
My wife would kill me if I put in washing machine. I use the hose on full blast and get most of the crap out and put it in bleach water and soak it. Rinse with the hose after a couple days and dry again.
 
Bleach and/or Oxyclean (Billy Mays said so) and let dry overnight, though I started using the mesh ones as well vs. the felt and need only rinse them out. I like the mesh billions times better for my purpose as the felt ones would clog and need to be changed every other day and required way more cleaning.
 
I don't use bleach, just hot water wash cycle, and they come out clean enough for me. Not pefectly white but I don't care what color they are. I am curious if the bleach kills bad bacteria or something else that hot water doesn't, or if there's any functional reason for it.

darn straight. Same here. mesh when I use them which is rare.

When I did service and worked at the retail store we would pressure wash/bleach/freshwater soak with prime then slap em back on the system wet.
