I'd vacuum the sand since you are taking water out. Also, make sure you vacuum out the back chambers.

This was a great tip. Cleaned and vacuumed out the back of the tank today where the reactor sits (not impressed with it at all) and found a load of crud and leaked particles. Caused a bit of a storm but cleared through the filters pretty quickly.
