Curing Pinched Mantles for Clams--How to make a Freshwater Dip

Hey all,
I have a couple of clams that were doing fine and dandy until about a couple of weeks ago. they slowly but surely started to close up, never fully expanding. I thought something was eating the clams (some fish or hermit crab) but I never saw any bites or chunks missing. They simply were just always retracted.

I did some research and came across this article:

I think what my clams have is "pinched mantle" and the cure is a freshwater dip with water that has the same ph as my tank (around 8.2 depending on the time of day). Anyways, my question is this: my RODI water has a ph of 7. What do I use to raise the ph of the water? And how do I accurately raise it to 8.2?

Thanks for you any advice you might have.
Patrick

Patrick,

Add a little baking soda and test. RODI has little buffering capacity so a little baking soda will drive it right on up. Start with a pinch, test, etc...

Best,
