Dang… Found a white nudi in my tank

Ang idea what this is? I dipped all my corals, especially recently in KCl, but clearly I missed something at some point.

What is this critter and which of my favorite corals does he eat? He is 3mm long.

I’m pretty sure it’s monti-eating nudis.

If it’s confirmed: Is there anyone who’s willing to hold onto frags (live tissue frags) of my favorite montis while I run fallow? This sucks majorly as I was just starting to get good growth on them

Sorry to hear that. You can borrow my 14g qt setup if you like. Light may not be powerful enough to keep sps long term, but otherwise I have complete equipment (heater, pump, etc)

Don’t want to put anyone on blast, especially since I don’t actually know where they came from. I PMed people I got montis from recently, but there’s no guarantee it was from them either. Who knows at this point.

The people @Fish Boss and I got our montis from, at the swap, were different afaik.

I guess I need potassium chloride now. Anyone have a sack of the water softener stuff? I’ll need a considerable amount but not a massive sack like they’re sold as lol

Almost 100% sure that's MEN.

1. potassium chloride doesn't affect them is my understanding
2. nothing affects their eggs, dipping does not help
3. these are definitely given out by people in the club with frags, has gotten me twice in two different tanks. Not saying that's what happened to you, but definitely can / does happen.
4. if you're seeing them on glass you have an infestation. You're now in a situation where you'll either need to choose to just deal with having them or go monti fallow.
5. one "easy" treatment is just break off and throw away any part of a monti you have seen them on or think you see an egg on. In my frag tank I switched to just using copious amounts of super glue. If I see one on something, I just cover that entire area of the monti with glue and then any other dead area I see. Much easier then dipping, but also more destructive.

Sorry to hear. Definitely are a huge PITA to deal with unless you give up and go monti fallow for 7 months. Maybe an excuse to get good at torches and acros?

I think it's the one thing that isn't as super effective against. Melafix is an old dip I remember people using on these. Magnifying glass plus dental pick and super glue on egg patches. Repeat dips to break the lifecycle.

KCl doesn’t kill them? Only kills flatworms?

I will use ReVive then. More aggressive on the coral and needs rinsing but it’s ok

Also anacropora can be predated upon as well? I’ll need to remove my goldenrod and other anacropora?

every type of monti. sorry to be the bearer of bad news. they're a nightmare and why I don't give out frags from my frag tank (I would not take the chance of giving them) and the main reason why I'm incredibly paranoid about how I handle any frags from swaps or purchases.

err, edit: sorry, in response to your specific ask, I don't think anacropora are montis, so I can't say either way if they eat thouse. Definitely spongodes, caps, encrusting, setosas, digitas, ...

err, edit of my edit: internet says yes, MENs eat anacropora https://coralrx.com/montipora-eatin...nchs are a,the Montipora and Anacropora genus.

Yeah I know all montis… I’ll have to pull all the colonies.

I just remember seeing someone mention they can eat anacros as well. I’ll do more research.
