Dangalang Laundry Room Frag Tank

I figure I should do a journal for this tank since I have a few DBTC pieces in it. This frag tank started out as a way to get more corals and has evolved into a kind of a test bed for equipment and other things for a bigger tank that I plan to build.

Tank got wet around mid May 2024 and was started with 10 pounds of KP Aquatics starter live rock and some live rubble from Aquabiomics. I let it marinate for a month with no lights before putting the first test corals in.

Dragon Soul Torch, BLA Lucky Clover, BLA Canary Grail, and unnamed HG torch from Islander Corals. The torch from Islander Corals must be a different species because it is getting stung by the other torches.
Yeah I’ve had that happen before. Didn’t realize until too late. I had thought all torches could be kept together

Just realized you have a lot of interesting equipment in there.

How reliable is the AquaWhiz for you? Which model is this? First generation?

How do you like the return pump? Relatively quiet? I was looking for a DC pump of this size and it looks as if this can be dialed down to 30 gph if needed, which is great.

What are you dosing into the tank?

Really reliable so far, I've had it running since December 2024. I use Hanna Alk Checker to calibrate the AquaWiz and the most it has ever differed is 0.2 dkh. I only use it to test, not to dose. I don't think I trust anything to test and dose, I'd rather see test results and then make the dosing adjustments myself. This is the 3rd generation model.

I'm dosing ESV B-Ionic 2-part and was dosing ammonium bicarbonate for awhile when I was fishless, but that's offline now.

I'm thinking about trying Reef Moonshiners on this tank to see how minimal/no water changes can go (your favorite hahah) and if it works out do that method on the big tank. Water changes on this tank are so easy with the sink being right there though lol.

Very (!) interesting. Agree it should not dose, only test.

Super - will purchase two of these now!

You might be suprised but I am leaning more towards less water changes recently. Or limit them to only clean the sandbed. Or resetting water levels if needed in one off scenarios. Unfortunately, my sandbed is rather large so I end up in the 10%+ weekly when I am done with the sandbed. In most cases, there is very little reason to replace only the water without removing the precipitation specifically if your goal is to dial in your trace elements - like moonshiners try to do this or the Balling light folks who supplement balling light with individual elements (what I do).
