Dino shake test?

So I've read a few places that if you put what you think could be dinos in a bottle with tank water, then shake it, strain it into a bottle and let it sit you can tell if its dinos or not by it reforming to it's original goo. Is that it? Does it work?
 
That’s what I understand. There are members with microscopes who’ve offered to scope them for precisely identifying their type. Dinos have a particular motion and shape that can be seen under a scope.

When I dealt with dinos I skipped the shake test and went straight to a scope. My tank journal has pics and process I took.
