Dishwashers Without Phosphates

I heard this story about low-phosphate dish detergent on the radio last month. Was wondering if the sewage treatment plants have a way to remove phosphates prior to releasing the water. We all know what a small concentration can do for algae blooms in our tank.

Depends on the treatment plant really. Some do and do an effective job. Others not so much. Some plants only get water to a certain state, then dump it. Others you can drink out of the other end.

Some states have banned phosphates on detergents; I saw a TV report on the ban and two ladies breaking State Law by crossing a State border to snatch some dish-washing detergent and smuggle it back home OMG !!
