Very sad start to the day.. After adding some corals to my tank yesterday, I apparently didn't put the lid back correctly and my Brunneus wrasse decided to jump out of the tank and I found it on the floor in the morning this one would always get spooked when I turned off the lights at night and could hear the lid move probably from it trying to jump out.. I used to turn the light back on to see it clearly unsettled.. still kicking myself for not adjusting the lid back correctly

Sand Sifters Rock Climbers

1st time I see this sand sifting starfish on a rock.. have seen them climb up the wall before falling awkwardly.. Gemini says

• • Starvation Warning: If they climb up the glass frequently, it usually means they have consumed all the food in the sand and are starving.

I hope that's not the case, anybody else notice this behavior with their starfish? or am I just thinking too much and I should just let them do their thing?

Gemini is correct. Sand sifting stars are very efficient. It’s looking for food. I have them in my tanks as well.

thanks Tu.. Anything I can do to feed these guys? Anything I feed the tank will be gobbled by greedy Chromis and Tangs.. Btw, I have 3 of these in my tank, only 1 is on its way up the rocks if that tells you something?

Feed your tank more multiple times a day. Hide pellet food under the sand all around the tank.

Stir your sand bed up a little in spots around the tank but not the whole tank at once. Three may be pushing it in such a new tank unless you get them to start feeding!.. Like above put raw shrimp or cracked clams just a hair below the sand. Rubber banding nori to rocks maybe worth a try plus super large seaweed pellets.. But Id try to specifically target feed first instead of randomly burring food like dog bones and see if you get responses or movements.. Don’t touch the star but with tongs burry the food a hair right next to them closest to their mouth! Ive seen them get excited and move around alot when I used to target feed corals with reef roids coral food probably from all the amino acids and smells.. Maybe try and blow some of that in the sand under the star or soak the raw food/ pellets in that solution to entice them more.. I had one for about 4 1/2 years with a deep dirty sand bed (dsb) and fed it fyi untill I switched to bare bottom and gave it away

thanks @PjFish .. I will try hiding some food next to them.. When I checked an hour later, the star fish was buried in the sand again, so maybe it was just a morning stroll up that rock lol! But definitely need to keep them happy so will try the above techniques, thanks again both of you

I only had one and he did not get too much in the sand bed. He came, up, then he lost half a leg and I gave him away as feeding them creates a lot of other issue and while they are interesting, they are meant to be clean up crew.

1 Pistol Shrimp and 1 Cleaner Shrimp (Havent seen them since day 1, but I hope they are alive - though I know Wrasses might have already had a good expensive meal)

After being MIA for over 45 days, look who finally showed up! I added Pistol Shrimp and watchman goby together, and the pair got lost! I could not spot the pistol shrimp the day after I added it to the tank, I assumed it became an expensive meal for my wrasses.. A week ago, goby started moving bases from it's usual place.. I thought it was trying to find a better place away from all the flashy wrasses ! Until today, when I saw both of them together and pistol shrimp doing its thing, decorating their home! So pumped to see these guys together!

Also found cleaner shrimp hanging upside down in a cave, working on my flame angel and few other fish!

However, I did make a judgement call recently with a missing purple firefish and declared him dead, since I have not seen him for many weeks. So it was logged as deceased in Aquarimate (my reefing app). But I believe I can reactivate him if he despite all odds reappears again.
