DIY Aquascape idea...

Was thinking of an Aquascape and decided to try to use crumpled newspaper as a way to get my thoughts into the tank. What do you think of this scape for my 50g cube?

A bit hard to tell, but some of those look pretty vertical, and thus a bit hard to mount corals.
Otherwise fun.

I like the idea of that overhang. Doesnt look like it covers rocks below it. However depending on the light, especially with a single pendant Kessil a360 or the like, you may still get a lot of shadowing.

The "rock work" is all about the halfway point of the tank, which is good for vertical SPS growth. Making the rockwork a little too tall in my tank is probably my biggest regret.

Like the idea of prototyping with newspaper. Look forward to seeing it when its finished!

Depends on what type of corals. Softy n LPS would work well. Might be hard to put euphyllias.

Ive always struggled with mine. Changed it around quite a few times before I got to what I liked

I like how you have some sandbed open, assuming the parts sticking out remain narrow with real rock instead of paper. Will that center rise be higher than the rest? Since the shape is a cube and not a rectangle, height is an important feature. Since there's not a huge amount of space between the rock masses, corals can more easily grow in to cover the space and form a single hill shape. It's nice when there is a height difference. I pretty much gave up when trying to aquascape a Biocube and only realized afterward that I was trying to treat it like my rectangular tank - doh!

I went very vertical in my tank and I still like it. Your mock up looks good.

If you put the overhang a bit lower and give yourself some spikes out of the top of it you'll be glad you did later.

You get a lot more room to mount sps with spikes than flat rock, but for a mixed reef a combination of both is good.
