I just wanted to share my attempt at making my own mount for my xr30. I'm sure it's a quick fix and a hell of a lot cheaper than the $150 Ecotech wants for a mount. This was a TV mount from amazon for $20 that the light was just a little to heavy for.

Ya, that's not the direction those are meant to work. If you mount it rotated 90 deg I bet it would work. But no height adjustment.

if you weld the angle, it will work.

XR30 RMS mounts are new $94. You can find them used for about $60.

Given the consequences of failure it might be worth putting in a second hook and wire for redundancy.

I’d vote for an extra layer of redundancy too. You have a string attached to a couple dollar wall anchor and that’s all the stands between your several hundred dollar light and water.

Its coated 60lb picture frame wire. But your right. I was thinking of adding a second anchor

@Srt4eric , one more thing you could try, is removing the washers in the elbow joint. Those are to smoothen the swivel motion is used for a TV, but they are the main culprit for the failure mode you saw for hanging the light.

I suggest removing the washers, and tightening that screw in that elbow joint.

I assume this means drywall anchor and not into a stud.
I’m the sort to periodically grab or lean on nearby objects, so that wouldn’t end well for me, but most people are better at knowing what not to touch than I am.
