Elkhorn Monti

I have three decent sized frags of Monti hirisuta A.K.A Elkhorn Montipora available at the next meeting.

To qualify you must

1. Have a reef tank.

2. Be interested in trying SPS coral.

3. Attend the April 11th meeting and stay for the entire presentation.

4. Wave and smile at a random person on your way to pickup the frag

That similar to the one Norman tossed out early on in the DBTC history that had many many successful generations?

BTW I like the requirement for staying the entire meeting, not just stopping by to pick up corals :D

No problem Erik!

Mike, yeah it's real similar, I would piggy back it on to the other thread, but it came from an East Coast shipment when I first setup my existing reef a while back.

Oh no I wasn't suggestion this should be combined, one of the corals I was tempted at tossing in has another one offered (although lack of interest kept me from doing it) but even if it is the same lineage piece it came from me not them :D.

This sucker had like a 8 generations or something from Norm's piece, should be a great one to propagate rapidly.

Btw, the hirsuta I put in back then originally was from Tyler at Dolphin Pet Village.

He had donated it to a BAR raffle at one of the first meetings I attended. That was one of the meetings where we had an "everybody wins" raffle.

the monti RTN'd on me. But it stopped before it was comletely gone. Then it came back like crazy, and eventually went into DBTC.

Not sure, but I think it was an ORA frag. Tyler was doing ORA back then?

I remember that coral. I think I was a first Gen recipient. Looks really nice when it gets big (which it does fast) but very fragile. Heck a good hard flow and it frags itself let alone a hand in the tank or a the occasional snail.

Yep, 1st gen.

I thought all my elkhorn was gone or had been given away.

I found some about a month ago when I moved my stuff from the 72 to the frag tank. There was a tiny patch on a hunk of live rock. I mounted it on a frag plug and it's taking off like crazy again.

I hadn't seen any elkhorn in my tank for over a year, haha.

Translation: You thought you finally rid yourself of that damn coral (??) :D

Hehe... maybe sorta kinda ;)

But when I found a tiny piece after all that time, I figured it deserved its own little frag plug.

Like running into an old friend. Kinda nostalgic, so I had to grow it again :)

One nice thing about it is that it's a pushover, it may grow like a weed, but all of my corals seem to keep it at bay by stinging it :)

This strain is originally from ORA as well IIRC, I'd have to call Jamall and find out.
