Filter roller - what's your take?

My motivation to get one is to get rid of the detritus/debris in my tank. But my issue currently is, I have custom filter sock chamber, and I'm just not sure how it will fit. Unless I Dremel the area, but I'm not too crazy about the idea. Unless there is a hang on version.I don't think they have any impact on nutrient levels - all they do is keep mulm out of your sump. My corals had better PE when it was off so I removed it.
Mine was a Clarisea SK-5000 - worked great. It's for sale if this thread convinces you to get one.

Red Sea one is hang on. They seem to work well, I prefer over filter socks for sure. Not sure the overall impact of any besides maybe clearer water/less coral food in the water column

If that's your goal, then I think a filter roller is a thousand times better than dealing with socks. The Clarisea is also hang-on. There's also a smaller version (the 3k) and the Clariseas are smaller than the corresponding Red Sea rollers which are pretty large.
I have a Red Sea 500. Not sure on size of your tank as there is a bigger and smaller one that is web based and a new roller mat that actually fits into a standard 4 inch sock. The 500 is quite sizable and if they had the 250 at the time I would have gotten that one for a 64 gal system.
Easy enough to install and I love the fact that for about 90 days I don’t have to contend with nasty socks! All but the Red Sea nanomat are web based and it will give info on how much is used and how much is left.
As to nutrient control -hard to say if it makes an impact or not. It does seem to grab a lot of organic waste & nearly put my protein skimmer out a job.
I really don’t think I’d ever have another reef tank without one again.

My total volume is around 350.
Do you then have both drains go through the filter roller or one?

For the 500 -it is configured to attach to only one drain-the other is the emergency drain and for a lot of reasons I don’t want that flowing in there as well if there is an issue with the tube for the roller mat.
I am assuming you have two drains coming plus the emergency, or at least what it looks like in the pic. I am not sure if the larger model can accommodate the two drains or what the recommendation is-may be worth an email to Red Sea on that.
One other note-I am looking at the space where the drains coming in and it may not accommodate the larger Red Sea rollermats as they generally hang over the side-I’ll send a pic later of my set up.

yes. Two drains and one emergency drain. Also, my drains are 1.5" I'll have to significantly reduce/restrict the flow which may not be ideal for this size of a tank.
Yeah. I think two small ones would probably be best. But that's gonna be pricy.
I sent an email to Red Sea. Let's see what they say.
