Fish quarantine procedure

I recently got a red rooster wasp fish from Aquatic Collection. It is eating well and seems to be very healthy. For now she is in a quarantine tank with no medication. I have not seen any signs of infections, parasites, etc. I have not quarantined a fish for a while so do people treat the fish for pests even when there are no signs? If so what do you use for medicating your fish?

This is a really in depth resource for QT: https://humble.fish/community/index.php?information/#quarantine_resources

I QT’s 15 or so fish recently. It’s not hard. Just annoying. Few tips for the copper part:
  • Find out if that fish is copper sensitive from humble fish
  • The Hannah copper checker is a great tool if you choose to use copper (ick & velvet)
  • Have a bunch of salt water pre-dosed with the correct ppm of copper for water changes
  • Keep an eye on ammonia (ammonia aleet badge “required” if using copper, other tests don’t read properly)
  • Don’t use sand if can avoid it. Do not use rock
  • You can keep ‘em in copper for 2 weeks then move then to a clean tank for 2 weeks observation. Or copper for 30 days without moving tanks. Tank transfer is also an option if you’d rather not use copper
Above will address ick & velvet. My fish had ick so I stopped there and don’t have personal experience with meds that address flukes, uronema, Brook etc

For a guided calendar for your QT check out this link; it’ll tell you what to dose & when. https://fishotel.com/quarantine-help/
