Cali Kid Corals

Frag Tank Setup

I plumbed a new frag tank into my main system. It is a 3' 38g plumbed into 50g sump and 120g display.

Frag tank has Eheim 1260 return on full blast plus and Coralvue powerhead (1250 gph flow) on opposite side. 4x39w T5 (2 x Blue+, 2 x Daytime)

- Should I have the same photo period as my display tank 2 x 250w Radiums (10:30am-4:30pm), or as my sump (8:30pm-6:30am)?

- What livestock would be beneficial? I was thinking of a tailspot blenny, wrasse, and a small tang. Any snails, crabs, shrimp? (Frag tank seems to collect all the detritus, whereas the display is almost crystal clear.

- Is my flow enough? I could add another spare MJ 1200 on the other side, or would it be overkill to get an MP10? Mixed SPS, Chalices, LPS.

No tangs (too small) or crabs (annoying by moving frags andhunting snails). It would be cool to make it so you always have one set olf lights on, right now you have 2, 4-hour gaps. Mp 10 would be nice, but glow should be pretty good already I'd think.

Ok. No tang.

Hmm... now that I think about it, would it be too much to have 2 x 4 Hour lighting cycles in one day for the frag tank to fill in those gaps?

You mean a split photo-period? Highly unrecommended. Corals do not react well to that, unlike many plants.

Not what I meant at all, sorry. I meant move things around so you have three periods that take up most of the day. Display, sump, frag. Will help stabilize ph that way a little.

I would skip the tailspot. I have 2 I my tank and both nip at plating montis.
Really, I've done a lot of research on them and i've never heard anyone say that. Blennies in general pick at rock for food, that's why they are believed to have short flat heads. Maybe you can try changing up their diet or putting a chunk of food on a rock near by so they go at that instead. I'm considering a pair for the tank I'm building now.
