Good thing I never tried to drill that tank...

So I need to clean up what I got, too many tanks, too much shit, I've tried to give it away, so forget it, the garbage company is getting it. First up was a 55g tall glass tank that I've always wanted to drill because it's so damn skinny, but it's like 22 inches tall, however on the bottom has a sticker that says "tempered glass" now of course being the internet sleuth that I am, I found out that usually means the bottom is tempered as no one tempers the sides due to cost. That said there was no easy sure fire "is it tempered" test that doesn't destroy the tank so I never drilled it. It served well as a temporary tank, a refugium, a secondary tank, a sump... it did it all over the years...

However it was finally time to go, so I get this 4 foot long tank and put it right over the garbage can, the plan is to whack it with a hammer and have all the glass fall towards the garbage, I give it a good whack and it bounces off... hmmm I'm not that weak, and this glass isn't exactly that thick, so I rear up and bring down the mighty hammer of Thor... and sure enough explosion of shards downward... it was tempered. next with the side... ok no way the long side is tempered... yup it is... ok I'll just put it on the ground (it fell at that point) and clean up the after math... all 5 sides tempered. Who would have thought. So just a friendly reminder if you see a sticker that says "tempered glass" it may mean the whole damn thing.

hehe, well I was in the privacy of my own garage, I put ear plugs in because I don't like really loud sounds, but I can imagine if my neighbors heard :D Even though the remains were fairly compact in the can, the can weighed a bunch... almost as much as a 55g glass tank!
