great eats in the bay area

this is a must need thread! i'm having a hard time finding good eats when traveling out to the bay area. what are your recommendations? we were looking for a good noodle/ramen place yesterday and ended up at this tofu house right around the corner from 6th avenue aquarium. the food was pretty good at the tofu house and don't mind going back again. help a guy out~! :)

For Ramen...

Santa Ramen in San Mateo

also Kahoo in Santa Clara (close to work; used to be way better when it was under the old ownership; called Dohenkotsu back then)

Halu is supposed to be decent too, but I've been there and I would say it's only so so.

Easiest way to find any reviews is just to look it up on yelp...

If you're ever on the Half Moon Bay coastside you've got three choices:

Mezza Luna for real Italian food, no red gravy there (I spent 9 years in Philly area and got sick of "Italian" food, which too often is something fried and covered with marinara)

Sushi Main Street local hole in the wall atmosphere

Happy Taco a killer taqueria, I eat there 3-4 times a week.

Honerable mention to Columbo's in Manor Dist. Pacifica for a real deli sandwich

You cant find good eating in SF? Theres tons of choices!
Yelp is a good place to look at reviews...

-Nicks Crispy Tacos on Post st. - OMG best mexican restaurant and theres a million chandeliers and red velvet all over. Get the ELOTE!!

-Shizo chinese/japanese restaurant on Mission and Cortland - Small place with nice service and amazing chinese food.

-Genki Ramen - On geary has great raman and other things. Plus tehres always funny japanese shows on.

-Blowfish Sushi - Forgot the st its on, but good sushi in a neat atmosphere playing anime on large screen.

-Spices on 6th and clement - Very good chinese food. Incredibly Spicey but amazing!

Um I can go on and on hehe

we almost tried genki but my wife is hesitant on going to that particular place at that time since there was no customers eating.. we'll try that place next time we're in the area.

thanks for the recommendations everybody! the sac restaurants aren't that great.. only a few places i would recommend to others.. too many "chain" restaurants... very few good authentic places. where i live, you can find at least 1,000 pho restaurants in a 5 block radius. :D

Ian turned me onto a place right on clement there and 5th I think china first or something like that.. They have a specials menu and we'd just order 5-6 dishes off of it for around $30.. ON your way back to sac champa garden is right on the other side of the bay bridge from sf.. Another aquarium buddy took Ian and I there.. Try the fried rice ball and appetizer platter.. Spices like paradox said is good as well.. YOu can order it extra spicy non returnable there.. They'll know what you mean when you say non returnable :) It means if it sets your mouth on fire there is no way you can return it to the cook for being too spicy :)
