Great selection of QT’d fish at High Tide

I would like to inquire whether those of you who purchase QT fish also take the time to quarantine corals sourced from local fish stores and frag swaps. I’ve noticed that some stores that quarantine their fish may also offer corals brought in by hobbyists who do not quarantine, which could potentially lead to the introduction of issues such as ich into their systems
Good question. I do for all corals, and most inverts.

Frag swaps are the aquarium equivalent of a swinger party or visiting a brothel. The people there are people taking in things from everywhere.

Always use protection (quarantine).

I believe vendors who sell truly QT’d fish keep the fish for sale in fish-only systems

I am confident that they do. However, it is important to note that individuals who purchase QT (quarantine) fish often also buy coral, which may carry the potential risk of ich cysts. If individuals are willing to invest in QT (quarantine) fish, which are typically priced higher, it is prudent to consider the potential risks associated with not quarantining coral as well.

You're not wrong; and this is a point I made sure to discuss at length in my article series on quarantining: https://www.bareefers.org/forum/thr...why-and-whether-i-should-of-quarantine.35831/

While they may be in the water the coral is bagged with, they don't attach to coral flesh itself.

Will KCl kill tomonts?

I don't think anyone has tested it. Go get your science lab coat on dude!

If you're curious though and want to experiment, Potassium Permanganate has been tested on ich for freshwater and saltwater and is believed to be effective. Some have used it as a coral dip, but I've read it can be pretty harsh as it has powerful oxidizing properties. Really bad for inverts. But hey, potassium permanganate is a really deep purple color that definitely stains your clothes, so maybe you'll get some cool colored corals. ;)

Reminds me of seeing artificially dyed nems back in the day! Wonder if their still food coloring them up somewhere?
