Well, ... went to pull my piece out of QT to put in my tank... found a hermit had escape the box and went to town on the piece... might be out before the race even started...

Hermit crab? It ate the coral? Was it getting at food inside of it or just scraping its tissue? ??

Technically, so did mine. Sure the crab worked it over before last night.

I think it picked at the coral itself... piece was fine before the crab made its way over...

It looks like a goner to me, but harder to predict when due to mechanical loss of tissue vs something intrinsic
