How do I get rid of this?

That looks like Cyano, best bet is to start by siphoning it off as often as possible and doing some extra water changes. If that odes not work more drastic measures may be in order, but start with the manual removal and see what happens.

GfO can't hurt in this situation as well, it may not help though.

I had the cyano a while back on my new tank too. I had to turn off my lights for 2 days, helps a little bit. Finally, i put some cyano removal and completely gone in two days. I think this is part of the water cycling process.

good luck

Cyano can fix atmospheric nitrogen, it does not need an organic form, that's why it can thrive in a nutrient poor environment. If you have a little bit of time a little elbow grease can get you through the cycle, sometimes though you need to step it up, that question will be answered in a few weeks. Do a little work and if it seems fruitless we'll walk you through an eradication schedule, but that is a last ditch effort.

This cyno problem is killing me. I spent most the evening cleaning my tank last night I woke up this morning to see tones more cyno all over. What is the next step to get rid of this stuff. Is there a product I can use that is reef safe?

It might just be part of the new tank syndrome, assuming your tank is a only few months old. If it's not smothering your livestock, I'd just wait it out. Mine was gone in about 2 months, now I've got diatoms :p.

this stuff is a pain in the azz, I have it now too, I have tried manual removal, but it seems to come back gang busters. I think the layer that gets on the sand gets picked up by the engeener goby and buired and then somehow resufaces the next day (is that possible).

What you everyone seggust as a manul removal process as a gravel vac removes a ton of water as well and is only sometimes effective.

I have aslo used a turkey baster, but I think I lack the right way as I have to blow water on it to get it to lossen up and when I suck it up 1/2 of it goes back into the water column
