How to fix this receding Scoly...

I picked up this coral on the cheap since it is receding SO badly. My question is, is it safe to cut away the dead skeleton around the tissue? Anyone done this before with any suggestions? Use bone crushers?

I had a lobo that did the same thing......as it grew back it reclaimed the exposed skeleton. If it bothers you trimming it back should be ok. Just be careful not to shred the polyp.

Well... the photo could be clearer, but that seems (?) to be a healthy coral at the moment - the dead skeleton is all brown and has been dead for a long time, and the living flesh is nice and puffy. You can saw away the dead bits with a band saw (you'll just make a mess with a chisel or cutters) if it bothers you, but it's not necessary.

Yea, the coral is alive and healthy, it's just the skeleton that makes it difficult to situate in the tank. I'll have to hit up Mike for band saw use
