I’ve had individual tentacles get twisted like that but never the base.

Same thing happened to mine two days ago. I added a second power head and probably caused unusual flow for the nem.

I'm not a hundred percent sure, but I've seen enough Nems squeeze their entire body through 1/8 inch holes to believe they don't have pain receptors in much of their fleshy body parts. The reason a largish nem can get so small is that somewhere around 95% of it's internal structure is water. Also, when Nems do this I've never seen them "try" to undo it quickly -- or sometimes ever.

With Bruce...It is never unintentional.
