Identify Spot on Swallowtail Angel...

I thought that fish is harder to keep. Hard to get one that eat.. No??

Sorry to highjack your thread Jeff ;D .. Hopefully your fish is doing better today..

LOL... no prob man. She seems to be doing fine. It will probably be a month before she's out in the clear on this one.

As to the fathead... I thought those guys required 120g+ systems also???

Why would such a small fish that acts like a hawkfish need such a large tank? I've never heard that and i've kept a half dozen of so over the years :) I kept a trio in my 54 corner. I got them from the exporter as a trio though.

Phong it's a matter of getting them quickly rather then them sitting overseas and stateside too long. Look at their bellies and ask to see them eat. Bring your own Arcti_pods if they don't sell it :) They get starved and are hard to get to feed. I've had great luck though with all mine. I never lost any to acclimation issues like that but I did have one eaten by my elephant ear (who I gave away after that)...stupid mushroom!!!

Good to know... all the research I've ever done online usually suggest anything from the 60-75g range to the 125+ range. I only have personal experience with 4 Anthias species... the three previously mentioned and the square. 40g still seems too small for me with these guys. I've also read on many sites that this guy, the "Hawk Anthias", prefers low light levels and lots of overhangs and caves to hang out in/under. Have you found this to be true with the ones you have kept?

50/50 with the lighting. The trio hung out in a cave nearly exclusively but the others cruised the tanks. The trio was under as much PC's as I could jam in the hood. I think it was 5x 55w and a handful of 13ws. The others had 150w HQI's above them and they cruised the entire tank. Probably has to do with where they were collected.
