Is my hammer ok?

The hammer is a tealish green.

I had thought the additional elements from the salt would be beneficial, but I haven't seen any calcium or alkanity consumption in my tank, so I'm doing the water change to try and keep nitrates under control. I have the large bucket of salt so I guess I'll have to try and sell the salt or see if I can trade it at infinite aquarium .would it be safe to do 5 gallon water changes with instant ocean at this point to bring those levels down

I'm running all the filtration since the tank is somewhat stocked now and I cycled with bio spira . I'm in the middle of a diatom bloom now that seems to be wrapping up.

Once you get a solid amount of coral, Alk/Calcium level of the salt mix is far less important.
You will use it up too fast to replenish with water changes (unless you do huge ones like Erin)
So you will get most of it from dosers/kalk/CaRx, not the salt.

Here’s an update after I moved him...not sure if this is now a more normal looking hammer.

It takes to reef roids pretty readily
