Our mission

J's 50gal cube mixed reef

Running around 25 mls a day total, had some rock rubble in my sump that had some detritus, my wave pump broke , prevented flow through the rock so I Removed it, going to make a spirolex cube latter...some old school bio filtration

So so far I've have gotten my kalkwasser set up going nicely, dosing around 7500mls is a 24 hour period, ph was pretty stable all day at around 8.28, my D.O.S. was acually adding a but much..I replaced my 3 year old Apex PH probe plus calibration..and back on track just waiting on my nitrates to get down to at least 8ppm from 36ppm...a slow vinager dose has been working nice and slow..about 5 to 6 ppm in a 12 hour period of reduction, but I did notice today that my phosphate was 0ppm....so GFO reactor is now going on a timmed schedule, looking for some stable stuff in the next couple weeks...

So how I have my Apex set up is as follows
In the D.O.S. I have the configuration set to double my daily evaporated water rate...I also have some programming in the advanced menu to keep the doser from add kalkwasser when the PH is at what I'd like the ph to be near, so right now I have it set to 8.26..so when I'm on my photo period the PH naturally will rise, at this point the dos does not add any kalkwasser, when the PH drops the kaulkwasser is added. .it takes some tweaking but by having the apex add 24s a day but limited by PH I can increase or decrease the total dose amount to make up for my evaporated water, as far as the alk and other levels I spoke with cris from ACI he answered my questions about the carbonic acid level VS acually KH in my reef, the alk will spike very high but due to how fast it does the tank and corals are happy eventually I will have to add some alk and cal depending on the bio load but the key here is PH at a solid 8.3 average..I do have to do water changes to help keep the cal in check at the moment but it's is a happy reef

I had a feeling you were following Chris Meckley's method for pH control... I have no doubts that it works for him and his coral farm. Curious to see how it works out for you!

I did run his method similar way years ago but I did more of a mix ATO and DOS system..but this time I figured I'd go all in o. It to keep the PH swing smooth and solid befor I was cross dosing and it was a headache lol so far I'm pretty happy witg the consistency, been 3 weeks, and I already need to dose some alk..and my bio load is small at the moment

I fat figered that lol my estimated evaporation per day is suoer close to 1 gallon a day!! Wich turns into 3.75 litre a day you multiply that times 2.. reason being the acually dose that can be done with the rules in the apex won't spread that amount of dose in a 24 hours period "wich 10hours is photo period" this adjustment makes the apex dose 2xs as much in a shorter period and breaks the dose up smoothly...so napkin no a bath towel yes...I can break it down I. Milliliters if you would like this is a method that does work well on smaller systems..but cris uses this method "his method" on his farms, meaning I won't gave to buy kilos of kaulkwasser like he does

Here is a screen shot of the acual dose from midnight to today

tank update
corals growing like weeds, nutrients under control after a small lil episode, still have some diatoms here and there but i can deal with that the dinos was definitely a test of my experience in the hobby but they have been gone for a while now!!
