Why/When: In preparation for our next Members’ Swap, we are having a fragging/dipping workshop Saturday June 7th, 1pm-3pm

@Srt4eric will be in charge with @Arvin R standing by to help you with any purchases (it's a great time to get reasonable frags with your BAR discount!)

Where: @Arvin R will be hosting this in Castro Valley. The address will be sent out to those that rsvp closer to the date.

Who: Supporting members are welcome, can bring a guest (space permitting). No children allowed since we will have some potentially dangerous equipment active.

What: We will be discussing and getting hands-on practice with techniques for fragging coral, mounting coral to plugs/rock, using frag containers/swap labels, dipping new frags for pests, and whatever else you guys would like. We will have band saws, bone cutters, scalpels, glue, plugs, rubble, etc to use. If you want to bring your own tools or donate some consumables, great (and let us know). Everyone should bring your own safety glasses, and gloves if you’ll use them.

We would like attendees to bring some coral colonies that you would like to have fragged up. It will help to have a variety of types of coral to practice on. What you do with the resulting frags of colonies you bring is completely up to you; options include: taking them home again, donating some or all to the store/swap, giving or selling to attendees there, etc. Whatever makes sense for you, just have something in mind by the day of. The main thing we need is coral to practice on. Even dead coral skeletons would be helpful for practice (highly recommend anyone with dead scolymia or brain corals to slice them up to see if there were any boring clams).

Volunteers: we are also looking for additional volunteers who would like to help teach fragging techniques, please reply in thread below and I'll add you to the list.

I plan to attend, though it hinges on if I can get off work a little earlier that day.

I have a xxl green singularia leather I would consider fragging but only if it's something a few people would actually want frags of.

I had a big need to learn how to cut the bottom of the acro colony which I was not able to with the saw as well as fragging a favia colony - but I am overseas, so will need to wait a few more months for the next one. Thanks for always offering this ahead the swap.

Was it because it was too big to fit under? I came across that problem trying to frag the candy cane colony I had

My plan is to attend! I put down yes without coral, but I may change that if I can figure out what I can bring. I was planning on cutting/practicing this week with the club saw I recently got. I'll bring the saw back to the event also.

hey I have a ton of Zoa's for the frag swap. If this workshop is for fragging, anyone wanna frag up what I have to give away? I just don't have the time. Anyone from san francisco going to this workshop? If not then put me down on coming. I really don't wanna flush these zoas down the toilet! I already gave a bunch away but I have more. Damn zoas growing like xenias in my tank.

How many is a ton ? Pictures ?

We can definitely get them fragged up, we just have to make sure they have homes after being fragged.

There are several who don't take zoas at all. So this would mean some one likely having to hold on to them until the frag swap (larger number of people to take zoa frags verse those attending fragging workshop)depending on the amount of them.

Its not a ton anymore (some people came and grabbed some). Maybe a few carpets worth, a bunch of loose ones.. I would say maybe 1/2 square foot of zoas? I'll just bring what I got. I'll try and print out some photos of what they look like. If I can't make it on the 7th then i'll bring it to the swap.

All good when some one says a ton lol, always a good idea to verfiy what equals a ton. A few dozen or 1000s of them. Hence just wanted to understand your statement above. I'm sure Shouldn’t be many left after the swap.
