Kat’sTankJourney

I started a 20 gallon clownfish only tank. No corrals, just anemones. My AI 16 slipped into the water today and now I don’t know what’s going to happen.
This tank has rock flower anemones, bubble tips, and carpet.

I’m looking for another AI prime
If you have a deal, please let me know.
Thank you in advance — all help is appreciated.

I'd say definitely unplug it and contact AI support to see what you should do before getting a new light. If you join the club as a supporting member, I think some folks here have some lights they can provide as a pay it forward thing to help you out in the meantime. It helps to note where you're located in your profile as well. Good luck!

Unplug it. Take it apart (there's a screw under the sticker). Dry everything off. I'd personally get some q-tips and > 90% rubbing alcohol and clean any residue I see. Alternatively pick up some electronic contact cleaner (this has nothing to do with eye contacts, it's almost brake cleaner) and after opening blast the crap out of it.

Then let it all dry again. Either wait a long time, or blow a hairdryer across it, or both (just don't burn your house down with contact cleaner + a hairdryer).

Assuming you unplugged it quickly and aren't repeatedly trying to plug it back in while it's still wet, it could come out with no issues. If unfortunately it stayed plugged in it's likely going to have issues and you'll need to contact AI. They'll refurb you one.

To update, found an AI 32 HD to replace my old light. Carpet nem is amazing and growing and my clowns tank is doing great. Rock flowers look amazing!

Glad it worked out! Those carpet anemones appreciate the higher par numbers from that light vs. the older one too.

Looks like you have a lot of room in the tank, are you going to the Cali Kid Frag Swap?

Yes, plenty of room saving my room for other rocks flowers, and potential corals. Thinking about adding a H magnifca if I can my hand on one for a good deal.
As of now, I’m not planning on attending the Cali frag swap I’m in San Jose think it’s a little far

I'd hold off on a magnifica since your carpet will get larger and 20 gallons will be very tight.

Definitely would recommend joining the club and borrowing the PAR meter too and carefully ramp up the stronger light so you don't bleach your inhabitants!
