Cali Kid Corals

Lets talk fish

I want to get some new fish. I have a 28 gallon all in one, about 22 gallons after live rock and sand, it has a closed lid and no way for a fish to get into the back chambers

What I already have in the tank:
1. yellow tail damsel (banishing it to the new fuge soon cause it's territorial I may reintroduce into the display tank after new fish figure out where they want to stay or just keep it in the fuge.)
2. asst. snails (dwarf cerith, nessarius, 1 turbo, a few astrea, and 2 stomatella)
3. 1 emerald crab
4. 1 peppermint shrimp
5. Corals right now I only have some zoas and an acan, I plan on getting a hammer or a torch coral, and some sps some time down the road.

What I like:
6 line wrasse
tail spot blenny
clowns (onyx percs.)
Bangaii Cardinals
panda clown goby (nip on sps I know but they are cute)

Optimally I would like at least one fish on each tier of the tank, fish on sand, fish on rocks and fish that free swim, and they would all get along. I hear 6 line wrasses can be "devils" but liveaquaria has them as peaceful. Clowns are set as semi-aggressive, but I see most people have one or a pair.

What combo would you guys go for? Feel free to throw in other fish for me to check out also, I see that our sponsors regularly have fish I have never seen or heard of until they post their new arrivals here.

panda clown gobies have special feeding requirements - read up on them before getting, and not via a website selling the darn things! I suggest not getting them.
6 lines are very mean fish most of the time, live aquaria is in the business of selling fish ;) Pick up Scott Michael's book, he's not in the livestock business. Sure you want such a fish? There is another wrasse that looks nearly the same but has bigger eyes and is far less of a prick.

Rest of the list looks good. IMO I would stick with the pair of clowns, pair of BC and the tailspot. That is a pretty heavy bioload in itself

Cool, I only wanted to 6 line to take out some of the bigger amphipods in my tank, since the damsel isn't doing it, and I really like their looks. Panda Clown goby was just a cool looking fish, I am not set on it, so i'll take your advice on not getting it.

As far as bioload, I was only thinking of having four or five fish anyways. oh and I will have a 15 gallon display fuge with chaeto spread over the sand (instead of a ball) and some other macro algae. That should help.

Alright, so I'm going to go with the Tailspot, Cardinal Pair, and Clown Pair for the tank.

Should I add them in all at once? or Tailspot first, then Cardinals, then Clowns? or is there another order to add them in at?

That's a good order. I'd do it over several weeks though.

You thinking of the possum wrasse? I've always liked that fish and would love to set them up for breeding.

Some call it the Crypitc Wrasse (http://www.marinecenter.com/fish/wrassereefsafe/crypticsixlinewrasse/) although I think TMC has the wrong Latin name for it.

the eyes are a bit intense for me, kind of like the dramatic gopher

Oh yea, I think I will be getting a Tail Spot Blenny on Sunday during our SF LFS Crawl :)

Front fired flashes will do that :) That is a poor shot of them BTW, much nicer in person.

I think I'm leaning away from the clowns, any other suggestions? I want a tail spot blenny for sure.

Cardinals are still give or take also

So I am back on this subject :) I have two darwin clowns, they were too cute and they won me over. I picked up my tail spot blenny, and now I am "kind of" in the market for the final fish/es to finish out my tank. I am really wishy washy with my fish purchases I like something, then end up backing out, then go back to it, then back out, then just jump in and get it :p I have a weird way of things. The motto for most reefkeepers is patience patience patience, I have indecision indecision indecision it works I guess :D Anyways back to the topic at hand.

Are there any wrasses/anthias that are suitable for my 28g, that will not pick on or be picked on by my clowns or blenny?

Six line wrasse -people have different experiences with them, and mine were great. It also helps that you will be adding the fish last to the tank. It is a very colorful fish, at a very good price.

I've never had a sixline work out for an extended period of time. I've tried dozens between my tanks and tanks I help service. Every one became a major PITB!

Yea, Sixline is out I don't want to risk it :) I think the cryptic is out, cause it might get bullied by the clown?

I don't have a ton of person experience with them but those I know who had them said they didn't get bullied. I think they be fine with the clowns, they'd just steer clear of the clowns area :) Great little fish IMO :)
