melt a hole in your mixing can with heater?

Noticed a little round "melted" looking area on my BRUTE mixing can, not sure if its an imperfection from manufacturing or if my heaters did it? Can they get hot enough to melt a hole in plastic surrounded by water? I just hang them loose over the edge and they sway in the current of the maxijet, sometimes staying in the middle sometimes getting pushed against the side...

Cheers,

Josh

wouldn't surprise me, heaters don't just get up to the temperature that you set them at, they just go crazy hot until the internal thermostat reads the water at the temp you set it at.

Yes, they can get that hot.

I had a titanium one and it melted an elliptical divot in my skimmer where it was lying against. I noticed and moved it before it went through the skimmer body.

And...

I think a heater melted through a rubbermaid container where a fellow club member had placed his corals and fish a few years back. He lost everything.
