Mounting multiple sps frags

Planning out my coral placement I'd rather have fewer, large colonies than a little bit of everything. Does it make sense to mount multiple frags of the same thing near eachother to try to entice them to grow together into a big colony?

Specifically I have 2 big spongodes frags that I'm planning to do this with, and a small digi colony that's maybe 5" tall and 4" across but very leggy. Wondering if it'll grow out faster/stronger as one piece or if I frag it into 3 or 4 pieces and mount those in a little cluster.

If you took a single stick of SPS, and cut it into 4 pieces and glued them to rock a few inches apart., they would slowly encrust the rock and meet while also growing upwards.

If you do want to glue a single SPS stick, I prefer to glue it horizontally.

I believe that encrusting or horizontal growth works better as it has more surface area that your lights can shine on.
Also if a single stick gets some sort of spreading death, it wouldn't affect the other stick fragments.

So for me, I do like to frag a single piece out and manually spread it out a bit.

And of course, you can always experiment and let us know how it works out?
