New open source controllers?

Looks like someone new is looking to tap into the open source controller market;

http://www.openreefs.com/

Anyone hear anything about this?

Very interesting!
Argh, wish I had seen that a week earlier though.
Now I have to add an RJ-45 to my board...

2 pH + EC + ORP + DO for $185, not bad for a sensor board.
Except no probes in that price.
Wish they had used I2C instead of that rather strange multiplexed serial though.

But seems more for oddball tinkerers like yours truly, not for any sort of real volume product.

I have had my RA for about a year now and I've yet to plug it in or even test it, I've been put off by the need to buy so many expansion modules (and their prices) therefore my oldschool AC controller still reins supreme and runs my tank with zero incidents to date.

I suppose I too am such an oddball as yourself haha and I've been waiting for a more inclusive product like this one.

Still waiting to see what Alex is working on before I vest more time or $$ in another system, I have a feeling I'll be selling my RA before I even use it lol or run a frag tank on it...

The DIY route still seems the most appealing but finding time in my life to learn how to build a DIY controller & program it is beginning to feel like a pipe dream as the days pass...

I had a reef angel for a while also. Worked well enough.
For me, DIY is really just for fun.

No more Arduino based systems for me though.
Too many shortcomings, and it is such an antique.

Long term, my plan is really to have both.
1 - A DIY set for CONTROL.
2 - A high quality off the shelf system for MONITORING.

So I get the fun of DIY, the ability to control anything, any way I want.
Yet the safety of a backup to notify me if (when) something goes wrong.

open reefs has been around for a while, but it's largely been a slow moving project and feels totally DIY

interesting, I've never come across their site or name till now... I wonder how long it will be before their power bars become available.

Mark - Controlling LEDs was the main reason why I bought my RA but now I'm leaning towards going stand alone with my lights & running a coralux storm instead...

they had a tutorial on creating an outlet box. It was totally hacky. I bet you could simply buy the Reef Angel's outlet box and use that to save you time.

Pretty new to me but considering it's open source (for the most part), it'll always be slow moving.

Any thoughts to building anything on the new RPi or even the Beagle Board?
