got ethical husbandry?

Now this really chaps my hide....

I just read the tail ending of this - it's the last page of the thread.

Why the hell would anyone want to nuke their tank all to hell for acros --- grrrrr --- >:(

It just sickens my that someone would dump a solution of fluke tabs into a 250g system (180g display with sump with attached frag tank) with fish, shrimp, and other inverts.

I certainly was sick when I was losing acros left and right, and even tried the fluke tabs but not in the main system as I was forewarned it would do nasty bad things in the long run to my display tank. Fluke tabs didn't seem to do much except hasten the acros to death. ::)

Do some fellow reefers have that much of a disregard for their tank inhabitants? >:(

It is pretty interesting to see him saying he was trying to further the hobby. He could have found out basically the same thing by moving some rock and corals to a 10 gallon tank.

he started a new thread "detailing" his "experiment", seems that his attempts to save everything just about failed, the last bit he mentioned ripping out the colonies and giving to a friend to watch

If he had only taken the time to yank out the corals to begin with he would never have had to kill most of the fish and inverts. I will bet anything that the rock in the tank has become saturated with the medicine since he used a four times dosage amount.

Now he has a pretty much lifeless tank and lost most of his corals and he has to let the tank sit "fallow" for several months. I hope his buddy will have better luck in treating the corals as once the eggs hatch the cycle will begin anew except it will happen in someone else's tank. ::)

As bad as that sounds Phong - that's funny.

I have to wipe the tea from the screen now - lol

I believe he's participated in our swap as well - so... I definitely think we will have to put the word out about dipping and quarentine to the folks attending as who knows if this stuff will be coming to our swap as well.

I don't take anything home from swaps unless I know the donor personally. I'm not interested in even the nicest coral at the cost of my whole collection.

Looks like there is someone else trying it as well. Smaller doses and looks better prepared but still risky with a big tank. I have to give props to them for trying to come up with a whole tank solution, but man wouldn't it be wiser to stage a smaller tank to test it first before risking thousands of dollars in livestock not to mention time?

I never posted it but did try a half of a pill on a 20g tank - it fried the affected corals. I could not really tell if they were already stressed or it was because of the fluke tabs themselves. :'(

I can understand/appreciate trying to come up with a whole tank solution, but when there are a ton of threads and posters who have all said the same thing which is there is not whole tank treatment. Okay, well that's not exactly true - Gresham threw out all of of his acros which would be a whole tank treatment ;D
