Cali Kid Corals

OMG. Part 1

I don’t know what some of these chalices will turn into after they grow out, but it’s a good start if they show they have the ability to manufacture all these different colors pigments. Not every coral can make all these different colors. I’d like to understand more about how and why they can make all these different colors.

It kept its colors and kept growing...

At this point, it deserved its own grow-out tile.

The last 3 images are supper amazing.

I can't believe this story got better. So after looking at these pictures about 10 times, I was wondering what percentage morphed to the 2nd stage?

How to make a Bahama Mama chalice - grow out a lot of red-blue rainbow chalices until you find one that can’t make up its mind whether to make red or blue pigment (so it makes both)

Left - direct from CB, Bahama Mama chalice; Right - home grown from red/blue rainbow chalice

Now my challenge is to frag this chalice so I can have a real Rainbow Bahama Mama.

Does the growth edge continue moving outwards with its unique color leaving behind new growth in potentially new colors? Or is it the older parts which start off one color then switch later?

does that question make sense? Basically did they grow purple, or were they parts that were older on the coral and eventually turned purple?

thanks for sharing this, you should start a journal on the magic chalice tank!

I’ve seen both happen, some new color change happens in the older growth, you have to cut that area out so the new growth follows (so the new color doesn’t get “landlocked.” Sometimes the growth edge changes color in a spot and that will propagate as it grows.
