Opening up a new business

You have to put an add in a local newspaper stating who you area and your DBA (doing Business As). It just tells everyone you want to call you business that. IMO it's a dated idea.

Other parts not mentioned above about starting a business is: business bank account & yellow pages (in most peoples case)

Ok, so I went to SBA website and there is a bunch of people that volunteer their time to help others in this kind of matters. It's called SCORE and I just made an appointment to go talk to a counselor in the first week of April.
Let's see what they say, but I think I'm just gonna start as sole proprietor in the beginning... I just want to be able to pay my share of the taxes and not get into trouble in the beginning. Then I can convert it to LLC down the road.
I guess the first step of it all is get the DBA name filed and in the paper... I'm probably going to use the legalzoom.com to file that for me. Thanks for the referal!! :)

SCORE is very helpful. You'd be amazed at the caliber of people within the group. The one that consulted with us was an ex CEO of a very large international Corp.

Yup!
I talked to one of those guys.
Got some nuggets.
A good start.
Your on the right track.
Except for paying the taxes part.
The main purpose of owning your own company is to avoid paying taxes! :D :D
